The sermon focuses on the Beatitudes from Matthew 5:1-12, specifically the first two blessings. Brother Charles emphasizes that these are not just rules, but a “prescription” for the internal transformation required to live in the Kingdom of Heaven.

• Matthew 5:3: “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” • This is not about physical poverty or a lack of money. • It is the recognition of spiritual bankruptcy. One must see themselves in the light of God’s glory, rather than comparing themselves to others, to realize their need for a Savior.
• Matthew 5:4: “Blessed are those who mourn.” • This refers to spiritual grieving over one’s own sinfulness and the broken state of the world (wars, famine, disease). • True mourning leads to the “joy of forgiveness” because God provides comfort through the cross.
• Nehemiah 1: Brother Charles references Hanani, who told Nehemiah the truth about Jerusalem’s broken walls. He uses this to illustrate the need for “Hananis” in our lives—people who tell us the truth about our spiritual condition.

Congregation response

• Seek Accountability: The congregation is encouraged to find “Hananis”—spiritual brothers or sisters who will honestly point out faults and provide correction.
• Attend Prayer Meetings: An invitation was extended to join the Tuesday night prayer meetings to pray for one another and the church.
• Self-Examination: Members are challenged to stop comparing themselves to those “worse” than them and instead look at their lives through the “X-ray” of God’s light.
• Repentance: Those who have not yet accepted Christ are invited to take the first step of the Beatitudes by recognizing their spiritual poverty and seeking prayer after the service.
• Internal Change over Religion: The congregation is reminded that following Christ is about a change of heart, not following a set of forced external rules.
