Isaiah 12
Br. Elias reflects on the message of Isaiah 12:
Worship:
Message:
The sermon centers on Isaiah 12:1-2, a passage of profound gratitude and trust. Brother Elias highlights the shift from experiencing God’s discipline to receiving His comfort.
- Divine Reconciliation: The text acknowledges a period where God was “angry,” representing the weight of sin and trouble. However, the core message is the turning away of that anger and the arrival of divine consolation.
- The Source of Salvation: Verse 2 explicitly identifies God as the only source of salvation, moving beyond human effort or merit.
- The Dual Response: Brother Elias emphasizes the specific declaration: “I will trust and not be afraid.” This is presented as a courageous act of the will, rooted in the strength and song provided by the Lord.
Brother Elias categorizes the human condition into four types of responses to God, challenging the congregation to identify where they stand:
The Self-Righteous: Those who say, “I will not trust nor be afraid.” They rely on their own morality, which the preacher describes as “filthy rags” before God.
The Fearful Unbeliever: Those who say, “I will be afraid and not trust.” They are conscious of their sin but refuse the remedy of Christ, effectively making fear their “god.”
The Inconsistent Believer: Those who say, “I will trust and still be afraid.” The preacher identifies this as a “terrible habit” and a stumbling block, urging believers to stop “counseling with their own hearts” (like David did when fleeing Saul) and start counseling with God.
The Courageous Believer: The goal for the congregation is to say, “I will trust and not be afraid.”
Action Points:
- Look Up: Like the boy on the ship’s mast, stop looking at the “swaying” circumstances and fix your eyes on the “unmoving Sun” (Christ).
- Practice Praise: Use praise as the shortest way to bind the enemy. Repeat “I praise you, Lord” to shift the spiritual atmosphere.
- Abandon Neutral Ground: Recognize that there is no middle ground between being “in Christ” and “out of Christ.”
