Message:

This bilingual service features a sermon delivered in Armenian by Brother Edward and translated into English by a second speaker.

The sermon centers on Luke 4:18 (with reference to Isaiah 61), where Jesus declares His mission. Brother Edward identifies six specific groups that Jesus came to serve:

  • The Poor in Spirit: Those who feel a void despite material wealth.
  • The Brokenhearted: Individuals suffering from loneliness, betrayal, or failure.
  • The Captives: Those enslaved by sin or self-will, regardless of political freedom.
  • The Blind: Those who lack spiritual vision or refuse to see God’s truth.
  • The Wounded: Those oppressed or “trampled” by the works of the enemy.
  • The Mourners: Those suffering from depression, melancholy, or a lack of peace.

Brother Edward uses his own family’s transformation—from a “dysfunctional” home to one that produced four pastors—as evidence of God’s power to restore the broken.

Congregation response

The congregation is challenged to identify which of the six categories they currently fall into and to “leave those issues at the foot of Jesus.”

  • Action Point: Attendees were invited to stand or kneel during a performance of “O Holy Night” to commit their anxieties and burdens to God.
  • Next Step: Participants were encouraged to stop worrying once they had committed their problems to Him, allowing God to “battle on their behalf.”
