To know Christ more and more

Brother Edward leads a Bible study on Philipians 3:7 looking at the example of Paul and his passion to be more like Christ.  Bible study:

The sermon centers on Philippians 3:7-14, where the Apostle Paul outlines his singular focus and the “surpassing greatness” of knowing Christ. Brother Edward identifies seven specific goals Paul pursued:

Falling in love with Jesus: Loving Him as He is worthy of being loved.
Knowing Him intimately: Moving beyond head knowledge to a lived, daily fellowship.
Abiding in Christ: Seeking an inseparable bond where Christ lives within the believer.
Experiencing Resurrection Power: Understanding the divine force that raised Jesus from the dead.
Sharing in His Sufferings: Being willing to carry the Cross and participate in Christ’s hardships.
Conforming to His Death: Seeing the “old self” as crucified and spiritually dead to the world.
Attaining the Resurrection: Remaining faithful until the final call to eternal life.

Congregation response

Brother Edward challenges the congregation to evaluate what “price” they are willing to pay to reach these spiritual goals, noting that Paul considered his worldly status and achievements as “rubbish” (garbage) for the sake of Christ.

Action Points:

• Abandon “Profit”: Identify things that are worldly gains but spiritual hindrances and consider them a loss.
• Practice Humility: Acknowledge that you have not yet “arrived” or become perfect; maintain a teachable spirit.
• Exercise Faith: Trust that reaching the goal is possible only through faith in Christ, not by following laws or personal effort.
• Apply Effort (Pressing On): Reject spiritual laziness. Like an Olympic athlete, one must “strain forward” and cooperate with God’s grace.
• Forget the Past: Release past mistakes, the sins of others, and even past successes to focus entirely on what lies ahead.
