Missing Church is a disaster….You need to be coming to Church! Tom Hawksley shares a challenging message on the importance of Church fellowship.

The sermon centers on John 20:19–28, which details two appearances of the resurrected Jesus to His disciples.

• The First Appearance (v. 19–23): On the evening of the Resurrection (Sunday), Jesus appears to the disciples who are gathered behind locked doors. He offers them peace, shows His wounds, breathes the Holy Spirit upon them, and commissions them.
• The Absence of Thomas (v. 24–25): Thomas was not present during this first meeting. Despite the testimony of the others, he refuses to believe unless he personally sees and touches the wounds of Jesus.
• The Second Appearance (v. 26–28): Eight days later (the following Sunday), Jesus appears again. This time Thomas is present. Jesus invites him to touch His wounds, leading to Thomas’s profound confession: “My Lord and my God.”

Brother Tom issues a direct challenge: “Don’t miss church.” The sermon outlines three reasons why missing the Sunday gathering is a “disaster” for a Christian:

Missing the Presence of Christ: Jesus chose the corporate gathering to reveal Himself, speak peace, and impart the Holy Spirit. Those who stay home miss the “special speaking” of God that happens uniquely within the church body.
Hardening of Character: Using Thomas as an example, the preacher argues that isolation causes negative personality traits (cynicism, stubbornness, “spiritual hardness”) to worsen.
Vulnerability to Spiritual Attack: The church is described as a “radiator” or a place of warmth; staying away leads to spiritual coldness, making the believer an easy target for the “lion-like” attacks of the enemy.

Action Points:

• Commitment to Sunday: View Sunday not as an optional day, but as the “most precious day” to remember the Resurrection.
• The “Thomas” Outreach: Identify friends or “Thomases” who have stopped attending and call them to share that “the Lord was present” and invite them back.
• Focus on the Cross: Reject “religious entertainment” or “show business” in worship; instead, focus on the broken body and shed blood of Christ as the only source of true joy.
