What is Real Christianity?

Philip Rowley shares from his experience of discovering real Christianity.

The sermon centers on Matthew 16:15-19, where Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter receives a divine revelation, declaring, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Key Points:

  • Revelation vs. Information: Real Christianity is not built on human logic, academic study, or “flesh and blood” knowledge, but on a spiritual revelation of Jesus Christ given by the Father.
  • The True Foundation: Jesus builds His church on the “rock” of this revelation. The
  • emphasizes that God is indifferent to denominational labels (Baptist, Catholic, Orthodox, etc.); He is interested in the “true church” founded on knowing Him.
  • Eternal Life as Relationship: Citing John 17:3, the defines eternal life not as a destination, but as the Brother Phillipe process of knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ.
  • Degrees of Knowledge: Using the Greek linguistic distinction, the sermon differentiates between having “information about” someone (like Brother Phillipe brief lunch with Bill Gates) and “knowing” someone intimately and personally.

Brother Phillipe challenges the congregation to move beyond a “shallow” or “mageres” Christianity that relies on heritage, church attendance, or biblical literacy alone.

Action Points:

  • Seek with the Whole Heart: Based on Jeremiah 29:13 and Isaiah 55, the congregation is urged to diligently seek the Lord to find true satisfaction that worldly wealth (referencing Jim Clark’s billions) cannot provide.
  • Recognize the Voice: Just as one recognizes a friend’s voice on the phone through frequent contact, believers must spend time in the Word to recognize God’s voice amidst the world’s noise.
  • Entrust the Burden: Following the example of Paul in 2 Timothy 1:12, the congregation is invited to entrust their problems and “heavy burdens” to Christ, confident that He is able to keep what is committed to Him.
  • Pursue Constant Growth: Like Peter and Paul, who experienced multiple “stages” and “levels” of knowing Christ, the congregation is encouraged to never be satisfied with past experiences but to always seek to know Him more.
