Brother Edward identifies four specific “hindrances” that prevent believers from being filled with the Holy Spirit and challenges the congregation to address them:

Disobedience: God gives the Spirit to those who obey. The congregation is challenged to repent of specific areas of disobedience (e.g., tithing, lack of respect in marriage, or unforgiveness) to “open the way.”
Doubt and Mistrust: Believers must reject the idea that the Holy Spirit was only for the early Apostles. The response required is a “simple, child-like faith” to reach out and accept the gift already provided.
Feeling Unworthy: Brother Edward reminds the congregation that the Spirit is a gift of grace, not earned by merit. The challenge is to stop listening to “Satan’s condemnation” regarding personal weaknesses.
Intellectualism: The congregation is urged not to lean solely on logic. Just as love or honey must be tasted to be understood, the Holy Spirit must be experienced rather than just analyzed.

• Examine your life for “conscious disobedience” and repent immediately.
• Stop “begging” for what God has already given; instead, “stretch out your hand” and thank Him for the gift.
• Open your mouth “wide” to allow the Spirit to provide new languages/tongues.
• Cultivate a genuine “thirst” for the Spirit rather than remaining indifferent.
