Brother Edward continues on the subject of evangelism. This week looking at some of the important principles of evangelism.

The sermon draws from 1 Peter 2:17, which commands believers to “Honor everyone.” Brother Edward uses this as a foundational principle for successful evangelism, illustrating it through the life of Jesus and the ministry of the Apostle Paul.

• Jesus and the Samaritan Woman: Jesus won her over by entering her world and treating her with respect despite social barriers.
• Jesus and Zacchaeus: Jesus saw the good in a tax collector and sinner, honoring him by requesting to dine at his house.
• Paul at the Areopagus: In Athens, Paul did not condemn the idol worshipers as “cursed” or “children of hell.” Instead, he identified their search for God through the altar to the “Unknown God,” using their own context to bridge the gap to the Gospel.
• The Power of Love: Referencing the Song of Solomon, the cacher notes that “love is as strong as death.” Just as no one can resist the arrival of death, no heart can ultimately resist the persistent, sacrificial love of Christ.

Brother Edward challenges the congregation to move beyond “Hi and Bye” relationships and commit to deep, intentional evangelism.

• Enter Their World: Take time to listen and understand a person’s background, pain, and needs. Use the “special key” required for each unique heart.
• Show Radical Respect: Respect the ideas and beliefs of others to earn the right to be heard. Avoid arguments and judgmental attitudes.
• Practice “Honey and Sugar” Evangelism: Speak with a positive spirit, a smile, and a “heavenly face.” Bitterness and pride drive people away from the message of grace.
• Exercise Patience in Spiritual Warfare: Recognize that evangelism is a battle against the “lion’s mouth” (Satan). If a person rejects the message, do not “cast them to hell” immediately; continue to pray and follow up.
• Personal Commitment: Every member is a witness first, regardless of their title or busyness. The congregation is urged to pray for neighbors, colleagues, and even those who have done them wrong.
