The sermon focuses on the Beatitudes (Matthew 5) and the Early Church (Acts 4-5), specifically examining the transition from internal spiritual transformation to external evidence of faith.

• The Beatitudes (The Internal Work):
  • Poverty of Spirit: Recognising spiritual bankruptcy as the prerequisite for the Kingdom of Heaven.
  • Mourning: Grieving over personal sin, which leads to divine comfort through Christ’s sacrifice.
  • Meekness: Defined not as weakness, but as “power under control” (like a stallion yielding to its rider).
  • Hunger for Righteousness: A spiritual thirst that leads to fulfillment and purpose.
• The Evidence (The External Work):
  • Mercy: The “litmus test” of a heart that has experienced God’s grace. It is demonstrated by how one treats those who have caused them harm.
  • Purity of Heart: The necessity of maintaining integrity. The preacher uses the tragedy of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5) to illustrate that hypocrisy—pretending to be more virtuous than one truly is—destroys the power and witness of the church.

Brother Charles challenges the congregation to move beyond “casual” or “cozy” Christianity, emphasizing that purity is the source of spiritual power.

• Reject Hypocrisy: Do not attempt to “fake” Christianity. The early church grew because it was genuine; hypocrites stayed away out of fear, while seekers were drawn to its purity.
• Guard the Gateway: Protect the “inner man” by filtering what enters through the eyes (media, television, magazines).
• Practice Forgiveness: Release anger and resentment. The preacher notes that a lack of forgiveness often leads to depression and spiritual stagnation.
• Maintain Consecration: Like Samson, the church loses its influence when it compromises with worldly standards (specifically citing sexual immorality and materialism).
• Boldness in Prayer: Encouragement to attend Tuesday prayer meetings, where the Holy Spirit empowers even the shy to speak and act with authority.
