Spiritual Winds that Believers must Overcome

Brother Elias gives a message on the wind, how God works in our lives.

Message:

The sermon explores the metaphor of “the wind” as a symbol for life’s challenges, identifying three specific types of spiritual winds that believers must overcome.

The Wind of Doubt (James 1:5-8)

  • Context: When facing trials and lacking wisdom, believers are encouraged to ask God, who gives liberally.
  • The Warning: One who doubts is like a wave of the sea, “driven and tossed by the wind.” Such a person is double-minded and unstable, receiving nothing from the Lord.
  • The Solution: Faith must be grounded in the character and ability of God (2 Timothy 1:12).

The Wind of False Doctrine (Ephesians 4:11-16)

  • Context: Immature believers are often “carried about with every wind of doctrine” by cunning and crafty teachers.
  • The Solution: Familiarity with Scripture, spiritual discernment, and remaining integrated within the “body” (the Church) to avoid being isolated like a sheep separated from the flock.

The Wind of Trouble (Matthew 7:24-27)

  • Context: The parable of the wise and foolish builders. Both face the same rains, floods, and winds.
  • The Difference: The wise man hears the Word and does it, founding his house on the Rock. The foolish man hears but does not act, leading to a great fall when the storm hits.

Brother Elias outlines a five-point framework for moving the Word of God from the “head to the heart” to conquer the wind of doubt:

Find a Promise: Locate a specific Biblical promise regarding your situation; this reveals God’s will.
Accept the Promise as the Solution: Refuse to “superimpose” natural logic or “buts” over divine revelation.
Implant the Word: Allow the promise to take root in the heart (James 1:21).
Meditate Day and Night: Use the “polishing wheel of the mind” to roll the promise over continually.
Speak the Word: Mutter and murmur the promise aloud so the ears hear it, transforming worry (negative meditation) into positive faith.

Challenge: Stop looking for others to have faith on your behalf. “Grow up” spiritually by learning to apply the Word personally.
