Trusting God
What ever is not from faith is sin, Romans 14
2 Cor 8:5-7
Worship: MP3
Message: MP3
The sermon centers on Romans 14:23: “Whatever is not from faith is sin.” Brother Edward emphasizes that faith is the essential foundation for pleasing God, while unbelief is a significant sin that causes “distress” to the Divine. Faith is defined as trust, comparable to the vital trust required within a family or marriage.
Brother Edward identifies three primary obstacles to faith:
Reliance on Sight (Appearance): Based on 2 Corinthians 5:7, believers must walk by faith, not by sight. Faith does not require physical evidence to accept reality.
Reliance on Deceptive Feelings: Feelings are unstable and prone to change. True faith stands on the reality of God’s Word regardless of emotional state.
Reliance on Human Logic: Based on Proverbs 3:5, believers are commanded to trust the Lord with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding. God’s ways are higher than human thoughts (Isaiah 55:9).
The congregation is challenged to stop limiting God by their physical senses, emotional moods, or intellectual boundaries. Brother Edward calls for a “healing of faith” where the Word of God becomes the sole foundation.
Action Points:
- Reject Sensory Limitation: Do not wait to “see” a miracle before believing it is possible.
- Disregard Fluctuating Emotions: Stand on the truth of your identity in Christ (e.g., as a child of God) even when you do not “feel” spiritual or worthy.
- Surrender Logic: Accept that God can do “immeasurably more” than what can be thought or prayed for (Ephesians 3:20).
- Self-Examination: Before participating in Communion, members are urged to examine their hearts, confess sins, and repent of areas where they have grieved the Holy Spirit or been disobedient.
