Spiritual revival

Brother Edward shares on the need for spiritual revival in our lives.

The sermon centers on Romans 13:11–12: “And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”

Brother Edward emphasizes that spiritual awakening is not for non-believers—who are spiritually dead and need life—but for believers who have fallen asleep. He identifies three primary reasons why the church requires revival:

• Spiritual Barrenness: Revival occurs when believers recognize their internal “desert” state, much like the Prodigal Son who only returned to his father after realizing his emptiness.
• Diluted Standards of Holiness: Modern churches often compromise with sin, renaming it to avoid offense (e.g., lying becomes “wisdom” or “politics,” greed becomes “cleverness”). True revival aligns our view of sin with God’s view.
• Lack of Unity and Love: The presence of gossip, envy, and unresolved conflict proves a lack of spiritual alertness. Revival necessitates repairing relationships and practicing genuine forgiveness.

Brother Edward challenges the congregation to move beyond performative worship (jumping and dancing) toward deep, broken-hearted repentance.

Action Points:

• Self-Examination: Use the “microscope” of the Holy Spirit to find hidden sins that are invisible to the naked eye or to others.
• Urgency: Recognize the brevity of life. Statistics show that in a 70-year life, only a few months are typically dedicated to prayer; believers must reclaim their time from “vain things.”
• Reconciliation: Resolve specific “spiritual difficulties” with others immediately. Revival cannot exist where grudges are held.
• Readiness for Eternity: Live in a state of constant preparation for death or the Lord’s return, ensuring that one’s “mission” is completed daily.
