Mesrob’s testimony:

Raffi’s testimony:

The sermon centers on Matthew 10:32-33: “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in Heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will also disown him before my Father in Heaven.”

Brother Edward uses this text to frame baptism as a public declaration of faith. He further supports the theology of baptism using:

  • Galatians 2:20: The concept of being “crucified with Christ” so that the individual no longer lives, but Christ lives within them.
  • Galatians 6:14: Boasting only in the Cross, through which the believer has died to the world and the world to the believer.
  • Acts 2:41: The precedent of believers accepting the Word, being baptized, and being added to the church family.

Brother Edward challenges the congregation, particularly those being baptized (Mesrop and Rafi), to understand baptism as a five-fold declaration:
Toward God: A vow of faithfulness, love, and obedience.
Toward Self: A “burial” of the old nature. The preacher emphasizes that one must truly die to sin before being buried; a “partial death” (like a corpse winking or moving a hand) is insufficient.
Toward the World: A detachment from worldly values, principles, and the “rubbish” (ashkhal) of secular society.
Toward Satan: An open declaration of spiritual warfare, refusing his “gifts” and leaving his dominion.
Toward the Church: A commitment to the “Body of Christ.” The preacher rebukes the idea of having a relationship with the “Groom” (Christ) while rejecting the “Bride” (the Church), noting that while the church is imperfect (a “hospital” where some don’t heal or a “school” with lazy students), it is the essential family of the believer.

Action Points:

  • Self-Examination: Members should identify areas of their lives that have not yet “died” to sin.
  • Church Support: Instead of complaining about church imperfections, members are called to “shine” and contribute to its progress.
  • Public Testimony: The congregation is invited to hear the personal testimonies of those being baptized.
