Christmas Message 2021

Rev. Edward Hovsepian Mehr shares the truth that God himself came to us. This is the key difference with other faiths that God lived amongst us. God put on the human body to make himself known to us. To know God we need to meet him.

The sermon centers on the theological significance of the Incarnation—God appearing in human form. Brother Edward references the general biblical narrative of Christ’s birth, specifically highlighting the concept of Emmanuel (“God with us”).

Divine Recognition: Christianity is distinguished from other religions because God comes to humanity rather than demanding humanity find its way to Him.

The Ocean Analogy: Just as a single cup of ocean water contains the same properties as the entire ocean, Jesus contains the full essence and character of God within a limited human body.

Experiential Knowledge: Knowing God is not a theoretical or biographical exercise (like reading about historical figures such as Mesrop Mashtots); it requires “living with” the person. Jesus is the bridge that turns “knowing about” God into “knowing” God.

Brother Edward challenges the congregation to move beyond a surface-level celebration of a propet’s birth and instead embrace the reality of God’s presence.

Recognise Personal Value: Understand that God’s willingness to “put on the body” and suffer human limitations is the ultimate proof of an individual’s value to Him.

Trust in Shared Suffering: In times of betrayal, illness, or physical pain, the congregation is encouraged to approach God as a “co-feeler” who has personally experienced these trials.

Deepen the Relationship: Use the Christmas season as an opportunity to move closer to God, moving past “religious theory” into a deep, experiential relationship.
