The victory of the empty grave
The sermon centers on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, drawing primarily from Hebrews 12:2 (“looking forward to the joy set before him”) and Isaiah 53:7 (the silent lamb before the shearers). The preacher details the fourfold suffering of Christ:
• Loneliness: Desertion by the crowds, his inner circle at Gethsemane, and ultimately the Father.
• Silence: His refusal to retort or lose his temper under mockery, fulfilling the prophecy of the silent sheep.
• Pain: The physical brutality of Roman flogging and the mechanics of crucifixion.
• Punishment: The spiritual weight of taking on the world’s sin, leading to the cry of abandonment (“My God, why have you forsaken me?”).
The core theological conclusion is based on 2 Corinthians 5:21: God made the sinless Christ to be sin so that believers might become the righteousness of God. The sermon concludes with the victory of Tetelestai (Paid in Full).
Brother Charles shares a message on Jesus’s suffering on the cross.
Jesus suffered loneliness, silence, pain and punishment. The perfect man who had committed no sin took on all the sins of mankind.
God had forsaken him on the cross. Jesus paid the price for us all.
God is merciful and just. Jesus satisfied the justice and wrath of God, so that he can now be merciful to us.
Telestoy – Paid in full, Jesus paid the price in full for our iniquity and sin.
Jesus is risen and death is beaten, sins are forgiven.
We remember this through communion and Brother Charle’s leads us through communion.
Brother Charles challenges the congregation to recognize that their “debt of sin” has been fully settled, leaving no room for guilt or fear of death.
Acceptance of Grace: Acknowledge that righteousness is a gift from Christ’s sacrifice, not earned by works.
Communion: The congregation is led in the breaking of bread and drinking of the cup to actively remember the broken body and shed blood.
Evangelism: A closing prayer challenges members to use the hope of Easter to share the “good news” of forgiveness with those they encounter in daily life.
Gratitude: Shift from “selfish begging” in prayer to a posture of thanksgiving for the ransom paid.
