Examine yourself

Brother Vazken looks at the importance of examining ourselves. Jesus is our saviour and he views us always in the best light. We need the shield of faith to defend against the devil’s lies. Looking at Psalm 23 for inspiration. Living as inspiration and a signpost to others of God’s love.

He emphasizes that while the devil uses our shortcomings to accuse us of being “useless” or “failures,” the purpose of biblical testing is to ensure we are aligned with the will of God and that the “new man” is prevailing over the “old man.”

Psalm 23 is presented as the secondary core text, illustrating the Lord as the “Shepherd King.” The preacher highlights that even as a king, David recognized a higher authority. The Psalm serves as a reminder that the Shepherd provides:

• Spiritual Sustenance: Feeding the soul with the Word.
• Restoration: Refreshing the spirit in “green pastures.”
• Protection: Using the rod and staff to guard and correct the sheep.

Congregation response

The congregation is challenged to move beyond a passive “I am saved” mentality and actively evaluate their daily walk.

• The Test: Participants are asked to evaluate if their actions align with their faith. The “test” is defined as checking if one is currently in the Will of God.
• The Old Man vs. New Man: A call to recognize when “the old person” (old habits/nature) resurfaces and to consciously choose the new life in Christ.
• Shield of Faith: Members are encouraged to “take up the shield” to intercept the “arrows” of accusation and insecurity thrown by the enemy.
• Practical Step: Meditate on Psalm 23 this week to find refreshment and to acknowledge God’s investment in your life.
